Third Biology Meeting of ABSCH schools

Biotechnology and genetically modified foods

 

On Friday August 14 it was conducted with great success the Third Meeting of Biology organized by the committee ABSCH Biology together with UNAB.


This year our host was Santiago College and was focused on experimental work where young people III through the various participating schools worked collaboratively in the development of biotechnology activities by extracting the DNA of different foods that are part of our regular diet. The objective of this experiment was to recognize which foods were GMOs and which were truly of plant origin. This allowed our students to become familiar with techniques used in genetic engineering such as agarose gel electrophoresis and PCR. The conclusion reached by surprised as most of the food we eat are usually genetically modified.
